Year 10 Immigration Museum Excursion

On Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 8 our entire year ten cohort visited the Immigration Museum to attend and participate in a workshop session entitled, ‘Leaving and Arrival - Understanding the Waves of Migration to Victoria’ Working in small groups, students unpacked suitcases filled with objects, artefacts and documents all of which revealed a story from a particular wave of immigration. Each suitcase held a real story. Students were able to share their discovered stories and build on their studies and understanding from our classroom units.

This excursion was a beautiful way to finish off our study of Migration Experiences. It highlighted once again to students that more than just words on a page or topics in a classroom, their Humanities studies are stories about people, groups and events which have directly impacted on our modern society and our very way of life.

Many thanks should go to both the Immigration Museum staff and the staff at Sirius College who were involved in the organisation, running and supervision of this very engaging school event.
